FNF has been actively working in Türkiye with partners from civil society, academia, economy and politics since 1991, when we opened our office in Ankara. In 2002, we moved to Istanbul. Türkiye is of crucial importance for Germany, Europe and the transatlantic cooperation due to its history, culture, economy, and geographical location. Therefore, FNF offers support to liberal-minded citizens and organizations in Türkiye to promote liberal values in the society. This way, we strive to contribute to a liberal, democratic and prospering Türkiye for all citizens.

Improving Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Cities
Since 2020, Türkiye has faced numerous disasters, underscoring the need for proactive risk reduction strategies. On May 14th, TESEV hosted an event to address this, featuring expert discussions on policies, data management, and collaboration. Workshops focused on integrating disaster risk reduction into strategic planning. The event highlighted the importance of robust data and local initiatives to enhance disaster resilience.

Our partner Climate Pioneers held a two-day meeting at the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Şişli Habitat New Generation Life Center with 20 participants, amongst others with the goal of developing their vision and mission of their young association.

Business and Human Rights Visiting Program in Germany and Brussels
FNF's "Business and Human Rights" program in Germany and Brussels explored integrating human rights into business practices, focusing on EU and German regulations. Aimed at Turkish participants, it delved into the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and Germany's Supply Chain Act, emphasizing legal and ethical obligations. The program sets a standard for international collaboration in corporate responsibility, aiding Turkish businesses in EU compliance.

„Welcome to 2024: New Projects and Hopes for Freedom“ events in Ankara and Istanbul
This month, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Türkiye Office hosted two vibrant gathering, titled "Welcome to 2024: New Projects and Hopes for Freedom." One event was held at our partner Freedom Research Association's Ankara office, while the other one took place in our Istanbul office. The events provided a platform for individuals passionate about freedom to come together, exchange ideas, and foster connections.

One year after the earthquake: "People need hope in such disasters"
On 6 February 2023, two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 shook south-eastern Türkiye and northern Syria. According to official figures, 53,537 people lost their lives in Türkiye, many more are missing and more than 500,000 homes were destroyed. Many people in the region continue to live in a state of emergency. At the same time, local elections are just around the corner in the earthquake region and people are waiting for answers to many questions.

KRE-AKT 2023 Program For Contact, Dialogue and Reconciliation with the Other
This year's KRE-AKT support program for Creative Activism, held for the second time with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Türkiye Office and executed by Impact Hub Istanbul, focused on the theme of polarization and discrimination. 12 projects were selected and received online and offline workshops to develop their idea further towards a clear advocacy message, produce creative content and think about sustainable income models.

Velda, Kerim, İpek - Belonging Trilogy
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed on 10 December 1948 at the 183rd session of the United Nations General Assembly held in Paris. Our partner Civil Education aims to bring the printed Declaration to life with the 'Birileri' project by having 30 actors perform 30 fictional stories, each written by a different author for each article. This time, they brought the third trilogy to the stage under the name 'Belonging Trilogy'.
