FNF has been actively working in Türkiye with partners from civil society, academia, economy and politics since 1991, when we opened our office in Ankara. In 2002, we moved to Istanbul. Türkiye is of crucial importance for Germany, Europe and the transatlantic cooperation due to its history, culture, economy, and geographical location. Therefore, FNF offers support to liberal-minded citizens and organizations in Türkiye to promote liberal values in the society. This way, we strive to contribute to a liberal, democratic and prospering Türkiye for all citizens.

„Welcome to 2024: New Projects and Hopes for Freedom“ events in Ankara and Istanbul
This month, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Türkiye Office hosted two vibrant gathering, titled "Welcome to 2024: New Projects and Hopes for Freedom." One event was held at our partner Freedom Research Association's Ankara office, while the other one took place in our Istanbul office. The events provided a platform for individuals passionate about freedom to come together, exchange ideas, and foster connections.

One year after the earthquake: "People need hope in such disasters"
On 6 February 2023, two earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 shook south-eastern Türkiye and northern Syria. According to official figures, 53,537 people lost their lives in Türkiye, many more are missing and more than 500,000 homes were destroyed. Many people in the region continue to live in a state of emergency. At the same time, local elections are just around the corner in the earthquake region and people are waiting for answers to many questions.

KRE-AKT 2023 Program For Contact, Dialogue and Reconciliation with the Other
This year's KRE-AKT support program for Creative Activism, held for the second time with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Türkiye Office and executed by Impact Hub Istanbul, focused on the theme of polarization and discrimination. 12 projects were selected and received online and offline workshops to develop their idea further towards a clear advocacy message, produce creative content and think about sustainable income models.

Velda, Kerim, İpek - Belonging Trilogy
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed on 10 December 1948 at the 183rd session of the United Nations General Assembly held in Paris. Our partner Civil Education aims to bring the printed Declaration to life with the 'Birileri' project by having 30 actors perform 30 fictional stories, each written by a different author for each article. This time, they brought the third trilogy to the stage under the name 'Belonging Trilogy'.

3H Movement XIV. Liberal Youth Congress
Our partner 3H Movement, which has been the most active liberal youth organization in Turkey since its foundation in 2006, held its XIV. Liberal Youth Congress. Changing Paradigms in Türkiye was this year's theme, focusing on the structural changes imposed by the government on academia, economy and media. In four separate sessions, nine speakers who have long time experience in their fields, discussed “then vs now” in a comparative fashion.

Türkiye Training Programme 2023: Anatolia Workshops Phase
In November, our partner European Neighbourhood Concil (ENC) in collaboration with FNF Türkiye, organized a series of workshops with the university students in the Southeast Türkiye with the aim of understanding EU key thematic priority areas like green energy and environment, foreign policy, polarization, independent institutions and free media and their relevance to EU-Türkiye relationcs.

EU Green Deal and its Effects on Turkiye’s Climate Policy
Organized by the Economic Development Foundation (IKV) and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in cooperation with the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) and the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC), the "EU Green Deal and its Effects on Turkiye’s Climate Policy" meeting provided participants with valuable insights on changing environmental policies and their impact on Turkey in various fields.
